Three Story Renovation with Front and Rear Additions

"We recently had the pleasure of working with Adam and Maria for a major 3-story renovation/addition to our home. We could not be more thrilled with the results or with the process, and would jump at the chance to work with them again in the future. We've already recommended them to several neighbors and friends and will continue to do so.

The scope of our project was quite large, nearly doubling the usable square footage of our house; we extended our basement, kitchen, 2nd floor (from 2BR/1BA to 4BR/2BA), and added a large front porch. We sought bids from several contractors, with Adam & Maria's being the most reasonable and fair by a long shot both in terms of budget and timing. To speak to the intangibles, we got a great "vibe" from them from day 1; there was no sales pitch whatsoever and yet they were highly professional, attentive, and easy to talk to. Adam came to our first meeting with ideas on how we could improve the flow and layout, which we brought back to our architect to incorporate into the plan even before we had signed a contract with them. He continued to do this throughout the project, calling us to propose improvements along the way that made a huge difference.

Adam & Maria stuck to the budget and were highly communicative about budget throughout the project, giving us updates and letting us know how much certain decisions would cost before we made them. Admittedly, the allowances provided for in the contract were on the low end (we were sure we would exceed them, and we did) - but the only other increases to the initial budget were our own additions to scope.

There were some unexpected delays with the permitting process which pushed out our desired start date by about 6 weeks; not only were Adam & Maria patient with us but they graciously helped us navigate a very complex system and process, connecting us to people who could resolve the issues and making calls on our behalf. Despite this delay and the scale of the project, they adhered to the agreed timeline and worked tirelessly to complete the project within the promised timeframe.

Adam's team (subcontractors included) were incredibly professional, courteous, and respectful at all times. Even when we weren't there, our neighbors made multiple comments to us about how friendly and respectful they were, how tidy they kept the lot, and how evident their work ethic was. As for the quality of work, we have lived in the space for about 9 months now and have been extremely pleased. Adam has a clear attention to detail and takes pride in his craftsmanship, and it shows.

We wholeheartedly recommend Solid Home to anyone in need of a reliable and talented general contractor. They turned what could have been a stressful renovation into a surprisingly smooth experience."

Addition & Screened In Porch

"The prospect of having to choose someone who would enter our home every day for many weeks (whether we were home or not), who would be making drastic changes we could only visualize (in our primary comfort zone), and who we would be paying hard-earned money to was incredibly stressful. After meeting with Adam, the nerves disappeared and the excitement kicked in. He immediately put us at ease; he was down-to-earth, understanding, and listened to what we wanted. He explained how our home would be changed in the short and long-term so that we knew what to expect and could plan for any necessary changes to our daily lives. Adam was easy to talk to, always accessible, and very responsive --  and we had many, many questions for him. The architect, who we had hired prior to meeting Adam, didn’t follow our requests as carefully as we would have liked; as lay people, we didn’t notice the discrepancies. Adam noticed the problems immediately and helped us work with the architect to fix them, thereby ensuring the work matched our vision. It was clear to us that he actually listened to what we wanted.

Once work began, Adam and his team worked efficiently without rushing the process; there were no shortcuts taken. We were thrilled with all of his subcontractors, who, like Adam, really took pride in their work. Everything from changing part of a room to completely adding a room went smoothly, and each day we returned home from work excited to see the progress. Adam and his team really made our home shine with careful work and attention to detail. Even better for many customers – he finished the project on time and on budget! We are so thankful we chose Solid Home Improvement. Adam really helped make our house a home!"

Basement & Bath Renos

"Adam Betalvi of Solid Home Improvement has done two major projects for me.  He has renovated my basement and renovated my hallway bathroom (which included changing the floor plan).  Both projects turned out beautiful.  The renovations included new floors, tile work, plumbing, lighting, electrical work, installing a bathroom and pantry closet in the basement, drywall, painting, and renovating stairs.  Adam has a great eye for detail, he gives regular updates, and he is always available to answer questions and provide insight.  The men who work for Adam are also very professional and do exquisite work.  Adam’s estimates for the length of time and cost of the project are also accurate.  Home improvement projects can be stressful, but you’re in good hands with Adam.

Addition for Primary Suite

"Solid Is Far More than Solid

We hired Solid to build an ADA-compatible age-in-place extension to our house. This is one of the best decisions we have ever made. Adam and Maria Batalvi were an absolute joy to work with. They only do one project at a time, so the customer has their full attention. Adam is on site nearly every day and often does parts of the work that need to be just-right. They both suggest great ideas that we never would have considered and greatly improved aspects of the architectural plan. For example, Adam suggested grouping three windows that were supposed to be separated by wall space, and now we have a gorgeous panoramic view of the back yard. They are sensitive to the big-picture goal of the project. For example, Adam suggested that if we used a barn door instead of a pocket door to the walk-in closet, we would gain two more inches for a wheel chair. And thank goodness Adam suggested a ceiling heater in the bathroom!

Adam and Maria are wonderful people, too. They were always cheerful and always open to suggestions and questions. Maria has a fine eye for design, which is not really part of their contract, but she helped us make decisions on matters such as tile color.

You can’t go wrong with Solid!"

Addition

"Our experience with Solid Home Improvement was excellent. We had a major renovation broken into two phases. After a difficult experience with phase one using a different contractor, we found Adam and he took over for phase two. Adam is honest and true to his word. His price never changed unless we asked for a change order above and beyond the work agreed upon in the contract. His craftsmanship helped our addition flow seamlessly with our 1930s era home. He went above and beyond when unexpected challenges brought on by a previous contractor's faulty work caused delays that cost him time and money. He managed his subcontractors diligently and checked in often to prevent problems before they occurred. He even took the initiative to check in a few months after our project was complete to make sure everything was satisfactory. I wish we had found Solid Home Improvement earlier in our renovation process and highly recommend their services."
